Ahead of the 2021 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, the Government of Rivers State has said it will launch the Armed Forces Emblem and Appeal Fund on Thursday, 17 December, 2020. In an effort to mobilize support for the Nigerian Legion in the State.
Secretary to the State Government and Chairman, Central Planning Committee, Dr Tammy Wenike Danagogo, made this known during the meeting of the committee members in his office in Port Harcourt today.
According to the SSG, the annual event geared towards appreciating the gallant sacrifices of veterans and families of those whose lives were cut short in service, will have His Excellency, Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike as the Chief Launcher.
He noted that as a solemn ceremony in cognizance of Covid-19 protocols, attendance will be based on invitation.
The State Commissioner of Information and Communications, Pastor Paulinus Nsirim, observed that the peace being enjoyed by all in the state is as a result of the synergy and corporation between the State Government and the security agencies especially since after the launch of Operation Sting.
The Permanent Secretary, Special Service Bureau, Of the SSG’s Office, Dr George Nwaeke added that the 2021 celebration has a new clip of Humanitarian Service as part of the 2021 ceremonies.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the State Legionnaires’, Barr Justice Chichi, thanked the Government for the consistent support to the Legionnaires.
