In his address, the immediate past Vice-President, Architect Namadi Sambo, decried the numerous challenges bedeviling the nation’s University system.
He said Government alone could not fund tertiary education in its entirety, considering the reality of limited resources amidst competing needs of the country in various critical sectors.
Sambo said there was the need to seek alternative sources of funding for the university system in order to revitalize the education system and ensure stability in public universities.
“University education is key to the development of any country. The numerous challenges facing our university system has affected teaching and learning in our ivory towers.
“It is indeed very worrisome to note the exponential rise in travelling for education abroad,” he said. He commended the roles of alumni associations in the continued existence of academic institutions.
Speaking on behalf of other awardees, NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim thanked the organizers for the honour done to them.
