NDDGG leader, Ambassador Sobomabo Jackrich, who stated this while officially inaugurating the NDDGG office in Port Harcourt, said Rivers electorate deserve a better deal in 2023, urging residents of the state to begin preparation to fully participate in the electoral process in order to enthrone good administration that will ensure equitable development across the state.
He said Rivers state needs a leader that would be accountable to the people.
According to him, “We gave them the power to lead us, that doesn’t mean that they are more powerful than us, we collectively gave you the power and now you see us as slaves, we are not slaves, so when your current tenure expires or you finish leading according to your style, when you leave office, others will decide to bring in new leaders, not you”.
“We will not allow you to bring in new leaders, because if you do, they will behave like you.”
Sobomabo Jackrich called on members of the group from various ethnic groups in the state to unite and mobilise preparations to change the narrative in governance of the state”.
“Rivers people deserve to be respected and the only way we can change this enslavement and tyranny is by our collective effort and how do we do it, go and get your voters cards and go out to vote. You cannot vote in the house, you cannot vote with your ATM cards, you can have all it takes but if you don’t have the authority to vote, then you are nothing”.
The event which also coincided with the NDDGG leader’s 43rd birthday celebration featured various performances and presentations from groups and a student union, and high point of the event was the presentation of a South African traditional crown to Ambassador Jackrich by the Arch Bishop of Diocese of Johannesburg, South Africa, Rt. Rev. Prestige Adiele, which he said, symbolizes authority, proclaiming him “LION OF THE TRIBE OF NIGER DELTA”.
