Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, Today, disclosed that women empowerment needs to be tackled with concerted efforts in order to bridge the widening inequality gap in Nigeria and Africa.
Govenor Okowa stated this while inaugurating the Women Empowerment and Skills Acquisition Programme (WESAP) for 460 women in Asaba.
The Governor stated that in most African traditional societies, experience had shown that in spite of comprising a majority of the population, women were routinely abused, marginalized, and discriminated against, particularly in the economic sector.
“Empowering women, especially the poor rural women, is fundamental to economic development in Nigeria and financial freedom for them means more confident women, better living standards for the family and improved communities,” He added.
