As captured in 16 highlights on Her Facebook page, “The MPI is critical to achieving successful outcomes in areas that include engagement on poverty eradication, zero hunger, quality education, climate action and inclusion, all of which are central to the evidence generated by the MPI.

“The MPI survey supports our M&E efforts and transparency initiatives especially in consideration of the fact that HE President Muhammad Buhari’s administration has since 2015, successfully empowered more than 10m poor Nigerians through initiatives like the NSIP – GEEP, Npower, NHGSFP, and many more.

As we work to eradicate hunger and poverty by 2030, the MPI survey will provide support for @fmhdsd as it collaborates with different government agencies, donor organizations, and private investors to shape policies and drive real impact in some of the following ways:

  1. The use of MPI data to foster government accountability to citizens through improved multi-sectoral interventions targeted at the root of deprivations.
  2. Close collaboration with the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) to conduct regular multidimensional poverty measurements alongside monetary measures at both national and sub-national levels, to understand our true poverty status, and use these findings to shape policy and programming.
  3. In partnership with private sector actors and using the special purpose vehicle of Social Investments, create a National and State poverty map/tracker, to provide a vivid representation of progress towards our poverty reduction goal.
  4. Collaborate with the Ministry of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, in the use of the MPI data to improve budget allocations by sector and State, to optimally target individuals, communities, and areas needing prompt attention.
  5. Facilitate a bi-annual multi-stakeholder, multisectoral National Roundtable on Poverty Reduction in collaboration with key stakeholders

The minister Sadiya Umar Farouq added “On Thursday, I attended the Launch of the Swiss govt/IOM migration project focused on Providing immediate Socio-Economic Relief to Vulnerable Migrants Impacted by Covid-19 in the Northern States of Nigeria.

This project speaks to the heart of FG’s commitment to tackling emerging issues and challenges that may confront the protection and livelihood of returnees and potential
migrants in Nigeria.

At the onset of the pandemic, HE President Muhammad Buhari’s administration through the @fmhdsd took several proactive initiatives to cushion the effect on the vulnerable. This included the modified school feeding programmes as well as direct intervention like the Conditional Cash Transfer to rural women.

I am delighted to see that the Swiss govt has graciously committed to supporting our efforts by providing immediate Socio-Economic Relief to vulnerable migrants impacted by COVID-19 in Northern Nigeria.
The project is designed to complement actions funded under the UN COVID-19 Basket Fund by focusing on returned and potential migrants residing in northern Nigeria with beneficiaries drawn from Yobe, Kano,
Katsina, Zamfara, and Jigawa.

I want to express our immense gratitude to the Swiss people and government for their support of this initiative &other activities that enhance the livelihood of Persons of Concern in Nigeria. I also wish to appreciate and thank IOM, our technical partner, for all their efforts in entrenching better migration management in Nigeria.
