A one-day Law and Finance Seminar organized by the office of the Accountant General, Akwa Ibom State in partnership with Nouveau Edge and Justice Chambers is ongoing at the ICT Resource Centre, office of the Accountant General, Idongesit Nkanga Secretariat, Uyo.

The seminar which has as its theme: Akwa Ibom State Public Procurement Law, 2019: Implications, Transparency, and Public Office Holders is specifically organized for staff of the Accountant General’s office and finance officers in MDAs to keep them abreast with the position of the law regarding public procurement.
The seminar aims to equip participants with requisite knowledge of provisions of the Public Procurement Law, it’s implications and applications. Participants will also be educated on different processes involved in procurement including the various thresholds set under the law. Furthermore, they will be put through practical case studies and judicial interpretation of the law and its provisions and also be made aware of possible dilemmas and conflict of interest that may arise in procurement processes thereby instilling into them ethical standards and conduct.
It is believed that such knowledge will aide in building a professional workforce that is accountable and transparent, and promote objectiveness in the handling of public procurement processes.
The lead paper of the seminar is presented by Dr. Kingsley Ekwere with the topic: An Appraisal of the Akwa Ibom State Public Procurement Law, 2019. Mr. Ndifreke Benson, Executive Secretary of the Akwa Ibom State Bureau of Public Procurement, will present a second paper with the topic: Akwa Ibom State Bureau of Public Procurement: How far, so far?
Thereafter, there shall be a discussion session to be handled by Dr. Raphael Etim and Mr. Adebayo Soares who will be speaking on the topics: Akwa Ibom State Public Procurement Law: A veritable tool for curbing corruption in Procurement Process and Infractions of the Akwa Ibom State Public Procurement Law: Case Study Approach respectively.
The event shall also feature a soft talk by Dr. Glory Essien who will be speaking on How to Handle Medical Emergencies while Barr. Ekemini Udim, Senior Partner at Justice Chambers did the tone setting.

In attendance is the State Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Borono Bassey while the Hon. Commissioner for Information & Strategy, Com. Ini Ememobong is expected to give a goodwill address.
