1. Living up to Unrealistic Expectations
“Unrealistic expectations are potentially damaging because they set us and others up for failure,” said Selena C. Snow, Ph. D, a clinical psychologist in Rockville, Md.
Avoid unrealistic expectations. Sometimes they are external, such as from a parent or a spouse, and sometimes they come from within. In either case, do not waste energy trying to live up to something you are not.
- Remember: You can only control yourself. When setting an expectation, it can help to first ask yourself whether you actually have any control over the situation.

2. Fear of Failure

“Resentment is like taking poison and waiting for the other person to die,” Malachy McCourt said. If you hold on to your wrath and bitterness, you will steadily destroy your life. Rather than holding on to your anger, choose healthy outlets to help you cope with it and go on with your life.
